It's just temporary

Just a quick note, if you are trying to find our profile on our agency's website, you won't be able to.

It's only temporary. They are in the process of moving our file from New Mexico to Utah. So it should be back up in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know! :D

This is the Place

A few weeks ago we went to Jacob family reunion at This Is The Place park in Salt Lake City. We had hoped to go for at least several hours, but like my post said yesterday, installing the new front door took way longer then it should have. So instead we were only there for about an hour. Most everyone had left by then, but we still saw most of Jacob's immediate family. Which was nice since his brother Paul is joining the Navy and will be leaving for training in a month, so our time with his whole immediate family is limited.

Here are just a few pictures from that day:

one of our favorite things to do when we get together is chat and talk, and of course everyone takes pictures of the chatting and talking.

And of course we love being silly. Jacob thought the his sister Ruth needed the windblown look for her photo.

Unfortunately two of the people that had already left were Jacob's grandma and his Aunt Patty. They live in California so we were anxious to see them. Fortunately they were staying at Jacob's uncles house so we were able to go over there and see them after leaving the park.

Despite the setback with the door, it was a fun day. It's so good to be near family again!

A new door meant, late to the reunion.

We have been busy little bees getting our house in order. It still hasn't sunk in being out of the Army and being back home in Utah. Being home owners still hasn't hit us. The other day the toilet wouldn't stop running and my first thought was, gotta call housing and have them come fix it. Then I realized, wait, we are housing, we are the owners. You see, where we lived, we weren't allowed to fix things, even some of the smallest things we had to call maintenance to come and fix it because those were "the rules". So it's been weird to be able to fix things ourselves.

We haven't had a lot of extra time lately, but we did go to Jacob's family reunion a few weeks ago. We needed to install a new front door that day and Jacob wanted to install it before we went to the reunion so that we could enjoy being there and not have to leave early to get home to install the door.

My beloved hummingbird door had cracks all over the stained glass part so we had no chose but to replace it. We replaced our kitchen door too, but that was the next weekend.

Anyhow, we though the door replacing would take 4 hours or so at the most, should have just been pop in out, pop the new one in. So there is a little more to it then that, but it shouldn't have taken the 7+ hours it took. The area for the door frame wasn't right, and the threshold was all weird, so Jacob ended up having to build a whole new threshold and area for the frame so the new door and frame would fit. (Luckily the kitchen door took 3 hours from start to finish, which is awesome!)

Tomorrow I'll post pics of from the little bit of time we were at the reunion, along with our visit with Jacob's grandma. :-)

Quick Update

I know, I have been really bad at updating lately. We have been getting the house unpacked and doing some construction projects. We are almost done. It's taking a lot longer then I had hoped, but it's getting there. Jacob started his new job a couple of weeks ago. Wednesday we are going into the agency to talk with them some more about getting our file moved to the office here. Hopefully we will be able to schedule a time for our ammended home study. They just need to come and make sure the new house is safe. That is part of what we have been working on. Our house had 2 smoke detectors, neither worked. So we are putting in more smoke detectors. Ones that actually work! And we also put in a carbon monoxide detector as well. Anyhow, things are coming along. I will post pictures soon!

We made it!

Just wanted to post really quick that we made it to Utah safely. Thursday we cleared our military quarters in New Mexico and spent that evening with some friends of ours. We left their house after a very good nights sleep (I have to find our what kind of mattress they have in their guest room because I have never slept so well) at 6 a.m. and after a thankfully uneventful drive, we made it to Jacob's parents house in Salem at just before 8 p.m. We stayed up until Jacob's parents got home from the temple and then stayed up talking to them and catching up until almost 2a.m. We woke up to a yummy breakfast that Jacob's mom made us and then left their house at 9:15 to make the rest of the drive to our new home. It was only an hour drive, so, much shorter then that day before. ;-) Most of my family came, and a good part of Jacob's family came to help us unload our Uhaul and with their help we were done in just over an hour. It was so great to see everyone again and it's a little surreal to be back home. I'm sure it will sink in soon that yes, we are actually home, and that this is actually our house.

We have met some of our neighbors over the last few days and I think we are going to love this neighborhood. Church yesterday was really nice. We only went to Sacrament, but still, it had a very welcoming feeling to the congregation. Funny story, I was sittingin church and I look over to my left. I see this woman that looks like an old friend from high school who I haven't seen since she graduated in 1994, so 15 years. After the meeting ended I start to get up, she looks over at me and waves. Sure enough, it's her! We got to chatting. She actually doesn't go to church in that building, her sister does, she was just visiting. But what a small world we live in. I had just been on Facebook that morning commenting on how cute her new baby is, when just an hour later I see her at church. Too funny.

Anyhow, today is Labor day and we have no plans other then tackling some of the many boxes we need to unpack. Hopefully it won't take us too long. We'll see. We love our new house though! I'll post pictures as we get the rooms all put together.

And we're off!

Well, not quite. Today we go to pick up the U-hual and get that loaded. Then tomorrow we clean the house here and clear housing (we live in military housing and they do an inspection before you "clear" or leave your house). We are staying tomorrow night with some friends (who we actually know from when we were in KS, we both got sent here to NM). Then Friday morning we begin our almost 900 mile journey back home to Salt Lake!! We're going to stay in a hotel in Green River UT Friday night and then make our way home Saturday morning. We're so excited!!!

Time to finish the packing. We just have to pack up the bedding and make sure we're ready to load when we bring the truck back. Not sure if I will post again until we get to Utah so... See you in Utah!!
